The Uttoxeter & District Sunday League is a long-standing amateur football competition based in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.

ABOUT THE LEAGUE

LEAGUE HISTORY

First founded in 1922, the league became an important part of the local sporting community. Although play was paused during World War II due to player call-ups, the league was officially reformed in 1973 by David Hammond, Ken Green, and Mick Harper. Since then, it has continued without interruption for over 50 years.

Originally relaunching with around 30 teams across three divisions, the league has evolved over time and now consists of 15 teams competing across two divisions. It continues to serve as a platform for local clubs and players to enjoy grassroots football in a competitive yet community-driven environment.

Throughout its history, the league has welcomed a number of notable former professional players, adding a touch of prestige to its local roots. These include Mick Mills (former England captain), Kenny Burns (former Scotland international and European Cup winner with Nottingham Forest), Jackie Marsh (ex-Stoke City), and Chris Banks (ex-Port Vale). Many of these players featured for local sides such as Marchington F.C., Stone Town, and Hoxstonstone F.C., highlighting the league’s rich footballing heritage.
