Division 1 Match Reports
Bramshall FC 4–1 Ball Haye Green Development
(HT 3–0)
Both teams attempted to play positive football on a difficult surface that, despite the weather, held up better than expected. Bramshall started on the front foot and were awarded an early penalty after a rash challenge in the box, but captain Brandon Alkins saw his effort well saved by the Ball Haye Green goalkeeper.
Ball Haye Green almost took advantage moments later with a clear run through on goal, but the Bramshall keeper reacted sharply to block. That proved a turning point, as Bramshall soon took the lead when a corner clearance was recycled and delivered back into the box from the left.
Bramshall’s dominance was firmly underlined before the break, with Ball Haye Green unfortunate to concede two own goals, leaving the hosts 3–0 ahead at half-time.
The second half developed into more of a midfield battle with fewer clear-cut chances. Bramshall extended their advantage with a fine finish into the top-right corner before Ball Haye Green pulled one back following a scramble in the six-yard box after Bramshall failed to clear their lines.
Ball Haye Green were handed a chance to reduce the deficit further when awarded a penalty, but the effort struck the junction of bar and post. Bramshall saw out the closing stages comfortably to secure a deserved 4–1 victory that keeps them top of Division 1.
Scorers:
Bramshall: Brandon Alkins, Liam Coates, Josh Ellis, Ryan Yates
Ball Haye Green Development: Dylan Salmon
Cheadle SMU 3–1 Sudbury FC
(H-T 1-0)
On a wet and heavy pitch, both sides began brightly, but it was Cheadle SMU who seized the early initiative. The breakthrough arrived courtesy of in-form forward Will Dobbie, who calmly finished a one-on-one opportunity by driving the ball low into the corner to give the hosts a 1–0 half-time lead.
Sudbury enjoyed more possession after the interval and spent long spells in Cheadle’s half, but struggled to break down a well-organised defence.
Cheadle doubled their advantage from a corner, with Sudbury failing to clear their lines and Dobbie reacting quickest to fire home off the post. The same man then completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot, converting confidently to make it 3–0.
Sudbury pulled one back late on, but it proved little more than a consolation as Cheadle SMU deservedly took all three points despite the challenging conditions.
Two cautions were issued during the match.
Scorers:
Cheadle SMU: Will Dobbie (3)
Sudbury FC: Rob Lawton
Sentinel Sunday Cup – 3rd Round
Oldfields FC 6–2 The Chase
(HT 5–1)
After a delayed kick-off due to a kit clash, Oldfields – now wearing red bibs – started at pace and took the lead inside three minutes when Rob Thorley finished well at the far post from a deep corner.
They doubled their advantage when Charlie Ratcliffe followed up a saved effort from the edge of the box to score the rebound. Oldfields’ dominance continued as further goals from Matt Redshaw, Greg Large and Ratcliffe again put daylight between the sides. The Chase pulled one back just before the interval, beating the offside trap and finishing well from inside the area.
The second half saw The Chase apply sustained pressure and come close on several occasions, unlucky to see one effort strike the underside of the crossbar. However, Oldfields sealed the tie when Ed Robotham finished a swift counter-attack. The visitors added a late consolation through their number ten, but the outcome was never in doubt.
Oldfields progress comfortably to the next round of the Sentinel Sunday Cup, where they will face Wood Lane on 15th February.
Scorers:
Oldfields: Rob Thorley, Charlie Ratcliffe (2), Greg Large, Matt Redshaw, Ed Robotham
