WEEK 9 ROUND-UP
OCTOBER 12TH, 2025
Premier Division
Tuns FC 0 Marchington 3
Tuns started the better of the two sides and created a number of very good chances throughout the first half. If it wasn't for some excellent saves from Johnson in the Marchington goal or Tuns not making the most of some well created chances then Tuns could easily have gone into half time with a two or three goal advantage.
HT 0 - 0.
Marchington took the lead early in the second half when a shot from a free kick took a big deflection off the wall and completely wrong footed the keeper. Tuns continued to create chances during the half with Dale Boot striking the post following a fingertip save from Johnson. More Tuns chances followed but they couldn't find a way past the keeper who was having a great game. With around 10 minutes to go Marchington doubled their lead when the centre back miscued a clearance that fell to the striker who spun and finished well. A third and final goal followed shortly after following a break and finish down the left wing.
FT 0 - 3
MOTM A Johnson in goal for Marchington.
Charlie Bassetts 7 Tean Rangers 1
Charlie’s met again with their old friends in Tean Rangers, this time for the reverse fixture at Blythe High.
Both teams started with intent to move the ball across a slick surface and both teams did so, after a few minutes of the teams figuring one another out it was Bassetts who started to create the more promising opportunities, it was also Bassetts who struck first with a cross from the right finding its way to Muzzy who touched the ball down to Chris Locketts feet about 10 yards from goal in which he converted on the half turn into the right bottom corner.
Bassetts continued to move the ball well, not too long after the restart Max Hill received the ball from the left about 20 or so yards from goal centre, a powerful shot was unleashed and hit the back of the net just under the bar ( needed to be seen to be appreciated) great goal, Tean had their chances too forcing a couple of saves from goalkeeper George Kay who had returned between the sticks for this fixture.
Bassetts continued to threaten, especially down the right with Karl Leese, Dan Lawrence, Muzzy and Max Hill linking up on multiple occasions, one of them resulting in the 3rd Bassetts goal, Dan Lawrence drove into a dangerous area on the right hand side and whipped a ball across the 6 yard box with pace, in which was met by Jack Kay to find the roof of the net.
The 4th goal came after about 40 mins again through Chris Lockett who ran behind the Rangers back line to latch onto a well weighted lofted ball over from Dan Lawrence in midfield this time Lockett rolled the ball home from the left of the box about 10 yards from goal into the far right corner.
The referee blew for half time, despite both teams having battled well and played some good football it was Bassetts that had the 4-0 advantage at the break.
HT 4-0
As the second half started Tean were hungry to fight their way back into the game and started to get the ball forward, the Bassetts back line in Karl Leese, Dave Harper, Gary Gibson and Jack Lee defended very well and continued to be resilient as they had in the first half, it was also the hard work of the Bassetts midfield in Ethan Clarkson, Max Hill, Muzzy and Dan Lawrence who broke up play and won the ball back on numerous occasions to further limit Tean to chances despite Tean getting on top in the early parts of the 2nd half, it was on around 55 minutes that the Bassetts 5th goal came through a Dave Harper long ball over the Tean back line that again was read well and met by Chris Lockett about 35 yards from goal and calmly lobbed the out-rushing tean goalkeeper from range (again, needed to be seen to be appreciated)
Both teams continued to battle well and both made substitutions, the 6th goal came through those substitutions combining , Kev Dowling lined up a freekick on the edge of the d outside the 18 yard box, the freekick was saved well by the Rangers keeper who parried the ball to his right, a quick reaction from Denan Farrington meant he could latch onto the ball and flash it across goal on the half turn to be met by Paul Dowling at the back post who calmly placed the ball into the net.
The substitutions continued to make their impact as Kyle Moran joined the midfield and continued to break up play, Farrington was again involved in a goal this time scoring after a 1 2 with Jack Kay resulted in him through on goal , he dribbled into the box placing the ball into the far left corner of the goal from the right hand side of the penalty spot.
Tean didn’t give up and continued to battle and move the ball across the pitch as they had all game, again threatening on occasions one of them being a ball over towards the Bassetts goal that was miscommunicated by the Bassetts defence and goalkeeper resulting in a Tean consultation goal that was forced in via pressure by the chasing Jay Boyles.
The game concluded with Bassetts winning 7-1 despite a well battled performance by Tean who never gave up and had their own positive spells in the game, a solid performance all round from Bassetts, all players did their bit and fought for one another, the subs made an impact and manager Dean Forrester , assistants Jack Grocott and Jordan Taylor all did their bit from the sideline to positively influence the play on the field, also really impressive debuts from Max Hill in midfield with a great goal and also Jack Lee who played very well from left back.
Man of the match was Chris Lockett with a hat trick.
Divison 1
Cheadle SMU v BHG
An even start to the game saw few chances, the best of which fell to Cheadle but Alfie Bonehill did not get the contact he was looking for. BHG took the lead when a corner was not properly cleared and when it was put back in to the far post Fab Horvath headed in from a yard out. Cheadle continued to play good football but were dealt a blow when from a Cheadle goal kick the ball was played straight to Josh McClaren who made no mistake. This really hot Cheadle hard and they conceded anther two goals in quick time from Tobias Pugh and Ash Barker. HT 0-4
Cheadle SMU manager asked for some pride to be shown and to at least win the second half and as BHG looked to sit on their advantage Cheadle thought they had got back into the game when following a free kick the ball fell to Louie Welford who finished really well only for a late flag to be raised for offside. Shortly afterwards Cheadle did have their goal when Sam Rushtons delivery to the back post was finished off by Will Carr making his first appearance of the season. Cheadle went on to miss other opportunities to make a game of ot with BHG always dangerous on the break. FT 1-4

TB Williamson Trophy
Leigh United 5-2 Bradwell FC
Leigh welcomed Bradwell from the Stoke league in the TB Williamson Cup first round - Leigh were looking to carry their recent strong league form into the game against the unknown opposition and found themselves 2 ahead early doors from 2 set pieces both tucked home from skipper Mollatt. The game settled down and Bradwell grew into the game and started playing some nice stuff but were kept at bay. Leigh added a third after a dangerous ball was whipped in from Whitehurst and prodded into his own net from the defender. They did manage to get one back before half time. Bradwell came out for the second half fired up and we knew the next goal was key, and seemingly so did they as they reduced the deficit to 1. However Leigh dug in and battled hard and managed a fourth from that man again Will Whitehurst before he helped himself to another in the late stages to firmly put the game to bed.
AFC Bradwell v Stone Town fc
Stone started really well and hit the post in the first minute then proceeded to control the game missing chance after chance to score, and but for the brilliance of bradwells goalkeeper could have been out of sight by half time,as it was goals by ben fraser and john beech just before half time that gave stone the lead. The second half followed the same pattern with stone hitting the posts and bar a further four times before Lucca baskerville scored to make it 0-3. Nathan mills added a brace and Owen Brown made up for missing numerous chances by scoring to make it 0-6 to stone and but for the brilliance of Ethan Burton in the bradwell goal it could have been double figures.Bradwell continued to battle well and missed a couple of chances themselves but it ended bradwell 0 Stone 6.
The only other cup tie saw Tean Rangers Reserves beaten 6-1 by AFC Moorlands.

Alton v Oldfields
Oldfields were very slow to start and to adjust to the small pitch with Alton having the better chances early on.
Alton took the lead through Lewis Dawson and were good for it as Oldfields didn’t get going first half.
Changes were made at half time bringing Ron Edwards and a debut for Greg large.
Within 15 minutes Oldfields were 2-1 up both goals coming from Greg Large.
It was then backs to the wall for Oldfields as Alton piled the pressure on.
A simple ball over the top of the defence which Conlon raced on to and slot home to equalise.
