WEEK 10 ROUND-UP

OCTOBER 19TH, 2025

Premier Division
Marchington 7(Birks x 3, Hepburn x 2, Wallace x 2) Charlie Bassets 0
Don’t be fooled by the scoreline — this was a competitive, entertaining game of football. Charlie Bassets created plenty of chances and played their part in an end-to-end contest.
Marchington, however, were clinical in front of goal, taking their opportunities well with some excellent finishing from the home side.

Oldfields 8–1 Sudbury Park
Despite only having around five minutes to warm up, Oldfields hit the ground running. An early fantastic strike from Ron Edwards set the tone, quickly followed by another quality finish to settle the side into their rhythm.
Jack Jeffery then stole the show with a well-taken hat-trick — his final goal an absolute peach. Reuben Kenny added a brace, his second coming after a brilliant solo run, skipping past a couple of defenders before calmly slotting home.
The scoring was rounded off by some excellent link-up play between Aaron Lakin and Mitch Lacey, with Lacey finishing neatly from close range.
Credit to Sudbury Park, who battled hard throughout and never gave up, earning a consolation goal past Charlie Wood late on to deny Oldfields a clean sheet.

Tuns 7(Roik x 3, Greensmith x 2, Hudson) – Tean Rangers 1 (Boyles)
Tuns started the stronger of the two sides, finding plenty of joy down the right-hand side. Their pressure paid off when the impressive Roik slotted home in the 11th minute to give them a deserved lead.
Just five minutes later, Bucko nicked the ball off the Rangers centre-back, who promptly sat on him to stop the shot! Bucko made no mistake from the resulting penalty, doubling Tuns’ advantage.
For the remainder of the first half, Tean Rangers pushed hard to get back into the game and finished the half looking the more threatening side.
Half-time: Tuns 2 – Tean Rangers 0
The second half started disastrously for Tean, as Roik struck again within two minutes of the restart. Three minutes later, Macca—who was faultless throughout—made it 4–0, and just two minutes after that, Roik completed his hat-trick to put the result beyond doubt.
Luke made some (let’s say very passionate) substitutions that gave Tean a bit of new life, and Jay pulled one back with a well-taken low shot in the 64th minute. Tean continued to push forward, but that left them exposed on the counter. Tuns took full advantage—Macca grabbed another goal, and an unfortunate own goal (we’ll spare you the name, Henry ) rounded off the scoring.
Full-time: Tuns 7 – Tean Rangers 1
Despite the scoreline, it was played in great spirits by two excellent sets of lads. After the match, everyone headed back to Tuns’ new venue, Time Vintage Hub (next to Wetherspoons), where the pulled pork and stuffing bap was absolutely spot on—highly recommended.

Staffordshire Sunday Cup – Round 2Alton FC 2 – The Foxley FC 2(Alton win 5–3 on penalties)
A very competitive tie between two evenly matched teams saw Alton progress to the next round after a dramatic penalty shootout.
Alton started brightly and took the lead after just seven minutes when a corner from the right wasn’t cleared, falling kindly to Jack Reeves who smashed the ball home from around ten yards out. Both sides played some good football despite the tight pitch and tricky conditions.
The Foxley equalised on 30 minutes, capitalising on a corner that was pulled back to the edge of the box before being fired into the top corner by an unmarked player.
Half-time: Alton FC 1 – The Foxley FC 1
The second half followed a similar pattern, with both sides enjoying spells of possession and pressure. Alton regained the lead on the hour mark through a quick-thinking move — a rapidly taken throw-in found the Alton attacker, who delivered a perfect early cross to the back post where Sam Pickup headed home superbly.
As the game wore on, The Foxley pushed hard for an equaliser, leaving space for Alton to threaten on the counter. Their persistence eventually paid off five minutes from time, when a goalmouth scramble ended with the Foxley striker poking the ball into the bottom-right corner to make it 2–2.
Full-time: Alton FC 2 – The Foxley FC 2
In the resulting penalty shootout, Alton held their nerve. The Foxley saw their third spot-kick saved, while Alton converted all five of theirs — with Alex Morris stepping up to score the decisive winning penalty that sent Alton through to the next round.
Penalty Shootout: Alton 5 – The Foxley 3

Division One
Tean Res 2(Keates, Brown) - Cheadle SMU 7(Dobbie x4, Goodwin x2, Brookes)
This was the third time running that I had the pleasure of officiating a Cheadle SMU match, and as usual, the first words out of their players’ mouths weren’t “Oh no, not you again.” Instead, they jokingly asked, “Why do we always get the best refs?” (Well, I’ll take that as a compliment! )
The game kicked off with Cheadle taking the initial kickoff, and from the very start, they looked determined to make their mark. Within the first 10 minutes, Cheadle had most of the possession, and it didn’t take long for them to break the deadlock with their first goal. Just 15 minutes later, they doubled their lead.
Tean tried to fight back with some long-range shots, but nothing tested the Cheadle goalkeeper. Midway through the first half, Brownie came on, but it was unfortunately Brownie who lost possession, allowing Cheadle’s number 9 to make it 3-0.
Half-time score: Tean Res 0 - Cheadle SMU 3
The second half began with Cheadle continuing where they left off, scoring just after the restart to make it 4-0. However, Tean responded positively with a well-worked team goal, and Ash Keates pulled one back for Tean. Rob Brown, who had made a big difference after coming on, then scored a stunning free kick from 30 yards out, placing it perfectly into the top corner to make it 4-2.
Two minutes later, though, Cheadle restored their three-goal advantage, making it 5-2. Ash Keates for Tean had a big chance to reduce the deficit further but missed an open goal, which could have changed the outcome. Cheadle capitalized on this and added two more goals to seal a 7-2 victory.
Final score: Tean Res 2 - Cheadle SMU 7

Sudbury 0–2 Bramshall
A really good game of football between two competitive sides.
The first half was a close, hard-fought contest, with both teams playing some excellent football. The score remained 0–0 at half-time.
In the second half, Sudbury seemed to drop off slightly, allowing Bramshall to get more of a foothold in the game. Bramshall took the lead with a well-taken header from Henry Hymas, before doubling their advantage through Brandon Alkins from the penalty spot to make it 2–0

Leigh United 2–8 Ball Haye Green Development
A bright start from the visitors saw them race into a 3–0 lead within the first 15 minutes, thanks to three clinical finishes from the impressive Jordan Davies, completing his hat-trick early on. It took the hosts 20 minutes to register their first shot on target. Ball Haye Green continued to dominate the half and made it 4–0 on the counter-attack. Leigh’s Whitehurst had come close moments earlier, but the visitors went straight up the other end to score.
Half-time: 0–4
Leigh United began the second half strongly, with Ollie Johnson causing problems for the visitors and almost scoring within two minutes of the restart. However, just five minutes in, Ball Haye Green extended their lead to 5–0 when a long throw found Cam Barker, who headed home. Leigh almost replied immediately after a great run from Whitehurst, but Johnson fired over.
Some brave defending from the hosts denied the visitors during a spell of sustained pressure, with three shots blocked in quick succession. Leigh then began to grow into the game—Mollart went close from a corner before Rob Minshall’s fine strike pulled one back to make it 5–1.
A mix of complacency from Ball Haye Green and renewed energy from Leigh saw the hosts enjoy a good spell, with Whitehurst denied several times. However, a superb solo run and finish from Barker made it 6–1 before Whitehurst was finally rewarded for his efforts, finishing well to bring it to 6–2.
Any hopes of a comeback were short-lived, as Davies struck twice more to take his tally to five and seal an emphatic 8–2 victory for Ball Haye Green Development.
