Oldfields started their defence of the Sentinel Cup against a very youthful side in AFC Stoke with a 16-0 victory thanks to goals from veteran Wiggy Lakin(5) hat tricks from Jack Jeffery, Adam Harper and Kieran Bullock. Just single goals for Charlie Ratcliffe and Joe Lobosco.
Alton progressed to the next round of the Staffs Sunday Cup defeating Charlie Bassetts. The game was close until the 40th minute when Alton opened the scoring after the experience rear guard of Bassetts had stood strong and were unlucky not to be leading after hitting the crossbar. Alton doubled their advantage 40 seconds after the break and experience saw them win 4-0 after using their substitutes to their advantage. Bassetts just struggled having only having 12 players available. Goalscorers for Alton were Archie McNair and a hat trick for Lewis Dawson.
Match report,Stone town v Leigh utd.The game started quite evenly for 20 minutes with leigh coming more into the game,having several chances to score but did not take them.Leigh took the lead with a speculative shot from outside the box which the stone keeper let through his legs.Stone equalised with a cracking volley from 30 yds by their centre half Baskerville that hit the net before the keeper could react.Half time. 1-1.Stone changed the keeper and shortly leigh went ahead and then were 3-1 up with a mistake by the keeper,this was then 4-1 when it seemed the ball had gone out of play over the byline but the leigh player managed to scramble the ball over the line.A vastly depleted stone side then pulled a goal back when ben fraser ran through to score,stone then won a penalty after a defender deflected a goalbound shot with his hand and fraser tucked away the penalty ,3-4.,stone fought to get an equaliser but the game ended 3-4 to Leigh utd.Leigh had much more chances to score in the game but did not take them.
Ball Haye 8 Tean Rangers Res 1
A quick start from Ball Haye lead to a goal inside 4 minutes after a solo run and finish down the left wing from Barker. Tean had a few shots from distance in what was a pretty one sided first half that ended up finishing 5 - 0. The pick of the goals coming from Zac Turner right on half time receiving a short free kick and firing into the top corner from around 25 yards. The second half was a closer contest with Tean pulling a good goal back through Ollie Lawton. The half also saw Ball Haye score three further goals, including a fourth of the game for Barker. The last kick of the game saw a penalty from Teans Ash Keates saved brilliantly by the Ball Haye keeper.
It was a bright morning at Pennycroft as the match kicked off with high energy. The opening minutes saw Bramshall pressing hard, and after a goalmouth scramble, Luke Bebbington put Bramshall 1–0 up in just the 5th minute.
Cheadle responded on 18 minutes when they were awarded a penalty and calmly dispatched by their number 9, Bruce Pal, to level the score. The game then settled into a midfield battle, with both sides fighting for control.
As the first half drew to a close, Cheadle’s pressure began to tell. Bramshall keeper made a great safe from Matt Goodwin,but on 41 minutes, Cheadle took the lead through Sam Akram, making it 2–1 at halftime.
After the break (and some tea and oranges!), Bramshall came out strong. On 52 minutes, Luke Bebbington struck again to level the scores at 2–2. But Cheadle soon regained the upper hand. Zach Povey put them ahead on 73 minutes, and just two minutes later, Matt Goodwin rolled back the years with a diving header to make it 4–2.
In the dying moments, Zak Povey grabbed his second of the game on 90 minutes, sealing a convincing 5–2 win for Cheadle.
In the remaining games Tean Rangers bowed out of the Staffs Cup losing 2-1 to Newcastle Borough and Sudbury progressed 2-1 in the Derbyshire Cup beating Allenton United 2-1.
