WEEK 1 1 ROUND-UP
OCTOBER 26TH, 2025
Premier Division
Tuns 2 – Alton 4
It was a great game of competitive football, with both teams giving their all.
Alton opened the scoring when Pickup broke through the Tuns defence and slotted calmly past the keeper. Their second came shortly after following a mix-up at the back, the ball falling kindly to McNair, who fired home from close range.
Tuns weren’t daunted and began to pile on the pressure. Their efforts were rewarded when Ash Hudson drilled a low shot through a crowded box to make it 1–2.
Still pushing forward, Tuns drew level after a poor clearance from the Alton defence fell to Dale Boot, who unleashed a screamer from 20 yards into the top corner.
The game became end-to-end as both sides went in search of the lead. It was Alton who struck next, however, when Hassan powered home a bullet header from a corner.
Tuns threw everyone forward in search of another equaliser, but Alton sealed the points late on. Lewis Dawson weaved his way past three defenders before squaring for Sam Pickup to tap into an unguarded net.
Full-time: Tuns 2 – Alton 4
Tean Rangers 2 – 2 Sudbury Park
A very close and competitive game saw both sides give it their all. Tean started strongly, taking an early lead through Sean Locker in the first half. However, Sudbury responded from a set piece and then went ahead 2-1 just before halftime.
Tean fought back in the second half, leveling the score at 2-2 once again thanks to Locker and creating several good chances to win the game. The standout moment came late when Sudbury nearly snatched victory, hitting the crossbar twice, with the ball eventually going out for a goal kick.
Overall, it was an exciting and entertaining game of football!
Division 1
Leigh 3 – Bramshall 8
This is what Sunday football is all about! Two teams going all out for the win from the first whistle to the last.
The first 20 minutes were end-to-end, with both sides creating chances. Leigh should have opened the scoring, but the Bramshall keeper had other ideas with a string of fine saves.
Bramshall were ruthless in front of goal and took the lead through their number 10, Elliott Oxley, just a couple of minutes later. They soon doubled their advantage thanks to the in-form Brandon Alkins, who simply can’t stop scoring.
A third goal followed when a long-range effort slipped under the Leigh goalkeeper, before Henry Hymas made it 0–4 right on the stroke of half-time.
Half-time: Leigh 0 – Bramshall 4
Leigh started the second half brightly, pulling one back through Will Whitehurst after a long throw caused chaos in the Bramshall box. However, another goalkeeping error gifted Bramshall their fifth.
Bramshall were then awarded a penalty, and a light-hearted moment followed when Durbin told Brandon , “I’m having this one — I haven’t scored all season!” Unfortunately for him, his shot hit the post and was cleared.
Leigh responded with a well-worked team goal to make it 3–5, but Bramshall were soon awarded another penalty. This time Brandon stepped up and made no mistake, restoring their three-goal cushion.
Bramshall added one more late on to seal a convincing 3–8 victory.
Stone Town 2 – Ball Haye Green 4
Stone Town started brightly and were on top for the first ten minutes, but Ball Haye Green struck first. A brilliant solo run saw one of their players beat four defenders before firing into the corner of the Stone net.
It was soon 0–2 when a goalmouth scramble ended with the ball deflecting into the Stone goal.
Ten minutes before half-time, Owen Brown went on a mazy run and finished neatly into the corner to pull one back for Stone.
Half-time: Stone Town 1 – Ball Haye Green 2
Stone came out the stronger side after the break and created plenty of chances — but just couldn’t find the net.
Their missed chances proved costly when a defensive error gifted Ball Haye Green a third goal, making it 1–3.
Simon Nagington, returning to the pitch after being subbed at half-time, pulled one back with a powerful strike into the centre of the net. 2–3.
Stone continued to press and were unlucky when they hit the bar and then the post — the rebound fell kindly for Ball Haye Green, who broke away to score again and make it 2–4.
Despite a few late chances, Stone couldn’t add to their tally. The Ball Haye Green goalkeeper was in fine form, producing a brilliant save to deny John Beech what looked a certain goal.
Full-time: Stone Town 2 – Ball Haye Green 4
Tean Rangers Reserves 1 – Sudbury 2
It was a bit chilly this morning at Stade De Wentlows, but that didn’t stop both sides from trying to play football on a pitch that had more bobbles than my nan’s cardigan.
Sudbury took the lead in the 7th minute when McKone struck a crisp shot into the bottom corner.
Rangers responded well, driven forward by the impressive Deakes, and it looked like an equaliser was coming. However, Sudbury defended resolutely and even had a few chances of their own on the counter before the half-time whistle.
Half-time: Tean Rangers Reserves 0 – Sudbury 1
The second half followed a similar pattern, with Rangers pushing hard for a goal. Midway through, though, they failed to clear a corner and Matthews bundled the ball in from close range to make it 0–2.
Tean didn’t give up, and Deakes pulled one back with a fine strike from outside the box, setting up a tense final ten minutes.
Despite late pressure, Sudbury held firm to take all three points.
Full-time: Tean Rangers Reserves 1 – Sudbury 2
Sausage and chips back at the Cross Keys — the perfect Sunday league finish.
Sentinel Sunday Cup 2nd Round
Marchington FC 1 – 3 Greenhoffs
A thrilling encounter between two competitive sides saw Marchington take an early lead from the penalty spot. Henry Wallace converted expertly after Will Hepburn was fouled, giving the home side the advantage. The remainder of the first half was evenly contested, with both teams creating half-chances and battling hard for control. Greenhoffs struck back just before half-time when their striker found space around 15 yards out. His shot took a deflection off a defender and looped over the goalkeeper, eventually finding the net via the post.
HT: 1 – 1
The second half continued in a similar vein, with both sides showcasing some excellent football. Greenhoffs earned a penalty of their own, which their captain converted cleanly off the inside of the post to take the lead. Marchington responded immediately and came close to equalising when Wallace broke the offside trap and ran through on goal, but his effort went wide.
Greenhoffs extended their advantage shortly after when their full-back made a surging run down the left wing and delivered a dangerous cross. The ball eluded everyone and ended up in the top far corner, putting the game beyond Marchington. Both teams continued to create chances in the final 15 minutes, but neither could add to the score.
Full-time: Marchington FC 1 – 3 Greenhoffs
Greenhoffs progress to the next round.
Oldfields 5 – 0 Blurton Wanderers
The game started brightly, with both sides showing some quick, exciting play. However, it was Ron Edwards who stole the show early, scoring two stunning goals within the first 20 minutes. Both strikes came from outside the box, finding the roof of the net with precision.
Kenny nearly added to the score from a free kick, only to be denied by a fine save from the visitors’ goalkeeper. Blurton Wanderers played some promising football but struggled with their final ball, rarely threatening the Oldfields goal. Redshaw made it 3-0 with a composed finish, assisted by Kenny.
Half-Time: 3 – 0
The visitors started the second half brightly, showing some slick football. Their best chance came just three minutes in when a through ball split the Oldfields defense, only for the striker to be denied by an excellent save from the home goalkeeper.
Oldfields quickly regained control. Ron Edwards set up Redshaw, who calmly chipped the keeper to make it 4-0, effectively putting the game beyond doubt.
The match then took an unfortunate turn. Following a collision, Wallace (Blurton) and Redshaw (Oldfields) both went to the ground. As tensions flared, Wallace stamped on Redshaw’s leg, sparking a brief fracas involving players from both teams. Redshaw retaliated, and both players were shown red cards.
After order was restored, the game lost some of its intensity. The hosts added a final goal when Baxter produced an emphatic finish to make it 5-0.
Full-Time: 5 – 0
It was a strong performance from Oldfields, though the sending-offs were an unfortunate blemish on what had been a competitive and entertaining match.
